Mike Marjama is a licensed real estate professional and a trailblazing athlete using his platform to advocate for mental health, wellness, and personal development. Mike spent 10 years on an amazing journey chasing his dream of being a professional baseball player, climbing through the minor leagues to eventually make his Major League debut in 2017. In 2018, he was recognized as one of the 30 best catchers in Major League Baseball, serving as the Opening Day catcher for the Seattle Mariners.

As a former professional athlete, he recognizes how athletes can create positive impacts by sharing their stories and advocating for their passions. In 2018, he shared his challenges with a national audience through LeBron James’ digital media company, Uninterrupted, bringing awareness to how mental health and eating disorders can impact young men, athletes and beyond. Mike’s personal challenges with mental health and eating disorders, beginning early in his life have helped shape his new journey as a Realtor, nationally acclaimed speaker, consultant, and real estate investor. Mike is the first male professional athlete to speak out about eating disorders and their impact on athletes and his story has been featured by MTV, Good Morning America, The Doctors, CBS Today and countless others. Most notably in 2018, Mike traveled to the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. and addressed members of Congress about crafting better legislation for those affected by mental health.

Mike currently lives between Granite Bay and Truckee-Tahoe and works daily as the CEO of The Marjama Group to best inform, educate and serve alongside his grandparents Corky and Gigi Heckendorn, whom have more than 55 years of real estate experience. Yet he also spends his time around the country speaking at events, supporting the work of nonprofits, and helping craft better legislation to improve mental health and wellness. With a successful Major League Baseball career, along with being a nationally acclaimed speaker and consultant, he knows what it takes to perform with the best in the world. After nearly 11 years as a catcher, guiding and serving some of the best players on the planet, Mike has teamed up with his grandparents to continue serving others. Whether clients are interested in residential, commercial or investment properties, with over three generations of REALTORS, developers, general contractors and investors in his blood, Mike has immense knowledge about all aspects of the real estate transaction. He may no longer be on a Major League field, but this is how Mike Marjama continues to step up to the plate.

He’s the proud uncle to his brother Jake’s three beautiful children and biggest fan of his sister Abby, University of Alabama Volleyball star. Roll Tide.

After years in the Bay area, we moved to Donner Summit in 1975 for a simpler life, raising our four children and thirteen grandchildren, living and loving the mountain life — except for the snow removal!

Since 1981, we have worked in the field of real estate, helping people buy and sell property in all the Truckee-Tahoe area, with a special knowledge of the locale in which we live — Donner Summit — and especially the popular Serene Lakes area. We KNOW Serene Lakes, the Summit, Truckee and the North Lake Tahoe area and we KNOW real estate! With over 55 combined years of real estate experience, we can and will help you with any of your real estate needs!

Gigi began her career in real estate in 1981 in Soda Springs with the original Boice Realty founded by MaryAnn Boice. Corky followed GiGi into the world of real estate in 1985.

Gigi’s many achievements in real estate are commendable — Realtor of the Year, past Director of the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors and Multiple Listing Service — more than 30 years of experience and still going strong!

On most weekends during fall, spring and summer, you can find Corky, with his “oh-so-familiar” cowboy hat and a cheery “Howdy”, holding an open house. Welcoming both newcomers and familiar faces, he’s happy to answer questions, hand out maps and brochures and assist you in any way he can. Whether you’re looking to buy or sell or just curious about the area, Corky’s your man.

Gigi and Corky enjoy cooking, fishing, camping, touring in their motorhome plus a multitude of activities that come with four adult children and thirteen grandchildren — kids’ baseball, soccer and basketball games, school plays, music and dance concerts and graduations, and more recently, traveling. And after more than 50 years of marriage, they still enjoy each other too!

“Providing the utmost in personal service — that’s our commitment to our clients.”
